From a performance and poise standpoint, it's hard to imagine a luxury sedan that can beat the new Alfa Romeo Giulia

As one of the premier purveyors of luxe Italian cars here in the greater Orlando, FL area, it should come as no surprise to anyone that we firmly believe that the Alfa Romeo brand is beyond comparison.

However, in the interest of serving the ever-changing needs of our discerning clientele, we do always keep a close eye on the competition. After all, choosing a luxury car is always a matter of taste, and there are few models more indicative of and appealing to refined tastes than the new Alfa Romeo Giulia.

Widely heralded as the very pinnacle of luxury sport sedan design, the Alfa Romeo Giulia has earned itself a veritable rogue's gallery of rival models over the years. And if you're like some the savvy shoppers we've served over the years from nearby Winter Park and Lake Mary, FL, then you're not doubt wondering how the new Alfa Romeo Giulia measures up against similar sport sedans. And while few sport sedans could honestly call themselves similar, the BMW 3 Series is undoubtedly the closest segment rival to the Alfa Romeo Giulia. And between these two Italian and German competitors, we think you'll see which pulls ahead once you look a bit more closely at the difference in the details.

Alfa Romeo Giulia vs. BMW 3 Series

Naturally, one of the main draws of the sport sedan segment is sportiness, so let's dive right in with that.

When it comes to raw muscle, the Alfa Romeo Giulia wins out overall. Its standard turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine boasts output figures of up to 280 horsepower and 306 pound-feet of torque, giving it a 0 to 60 mph sprint time of just 5.1 seconds.

The BMW 3 Series comes up short with a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that only managed 255 horsepower, 295 pound-feet of torque, and a 0 to 60 mph time of 5.3 seconds.

Of course, you can always spring for the more powerful BMW M340i, which offers a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine that's good for up to 382 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque.

Unfortunately, even that comes up short when compared to the staggeringly powerful Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio. With a turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 engine ready to be unleashed under its hood, this sport sedan truly takes its competitors to task with up to 505 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque available on demand.

But when it comes to the luxury sport sedan segment, power isn't the whole story, so let 's talk style and sophistication. Aesthetics are a matter of taste of course, but it's hard to deny the allure of the Alfa Romeo Giulia. With is vibrant selection of colors and aggressive exterior accents like available carbon fiber mirror caps and grille inserts and contrasting Brembo performance brake calipers with Alfa Romeo script in colors like red, yellow, and black, it's hard to look at both the Alfa Romeo Giulia and BMW 3 Series side-by-side and not feel like the latter is a bit lacking in the looks department.

But of course, it's when you slip inside that the Alfa Romeo Giulia truly shows the edge it has over the BMW 3 Series. With its heritage of emotive design, the cabin of the Alfa Romeo Giulia is an aria to Italian craftsmanship, complete with standard leather upholstery, tasteful contrasting color schemes, and cool carbon fiber trim. By comparison, the interior of the BMW 3 Series feels stale and stagnant, and if you want leather, you'll have to pay extra or risk being stuck with the cheap feeling SensaTec vinyl upholstery it comes standard with.
